What Do Setting Goals Do for Us?

Many have done research on goal setting through the ages and have found when setting goals, you will have more:
- Clarity
- Motivation
- Confidence
- FOCUS
- Purpose
- Sense of accomplishment
- Charisma
- Time management skills
- Energy
- Happiness
To name just a few…

Sports and dance are great examples of goal setting and the results from them are not only that they help one achieve success in physical activities but also help to give us the mental skills that can then be applied throughout one’s lifetime in work, family, friendships, and love.
Just as karate helps to motivate the student to work toward earning their next belt, football, baseball, basketball, soccer, etc. gives one determination to work as a team. FOCUS Dance Center offers a ranking/level program that motivates the dancers toward individual and group goal setting, a sense of accomplishment, and confidence building to keep working toward advancement and unlocking the skills to success. In addition, dance offers a competitive program, much like the Olympics, where dancers (as a team and individually) can build confidence, poise, perseverance, and determination to never give up on oneself and each other through competition. “Tough times never last, but tough people do” and goal setting gives us strength to better handle the unexpected challenges in life.
Most important is how this translates to everyday life, schoolwork, excelling in the work force, etc.
When one sets goals that they are passionate about it gives them energy, happiness, direction, and drive. When one is motivated, they become more outgoing and charismatic. Setting goals teaches us to believe in ourselves, tap into our full potential, and not be afraid to push ourselves to new heights in all aspects of our lives. It can be quite contagious to those around us and can be an uplifting mechanism for all.
So, when choosing the best goal setting program options, keep in mind the additional benefits dance provides not only as a physical team and individual sport, but also an art form where one learns the added skills to be presentational and confident performing in front of an audience. No matter the program choice, goal setting in general better prepares us for success in all aspects of our life.
